Do you want to dive with tiger sharks, with guaranteed encounters all year round? If so, you have to come to Fuvahmulah.
What makes Fuvahmulah so special is its unique location. Because it sits alone in the Indian Ocean and is not part of an atoll, there are no nearby neighboring islands and no shallow reef systems. Instead, the deep ocean meets the coastline directly. As a result, conditions here are quite exposed. On one hand, this means that weather and sea conditions play a major role, since waves are not slowed down before reaching the island. On the other hand, this very exposure is exactly what makes Fuvahmulah so exceptional for diving.
In fact, you can encounter large marine life on almost every dive, especially tiger sharks. Notably, this area hosts the largest known population of tiger sharks in the world and is also believed to be the only known mating site for both tiger sharks and thresher sharks. In addition, there is a strong year-round presence of grey reef sharks, silvertip sharks, barracudas, and several other large pelagic species.
Moreover, depending on the season and conditions, you may also encounter whale sharks, hammerhead sharks, mola mola, oceanic whitetip sharks, and even oceanic manta rays.
As Divepoint has not its own dive center on FVM, we collaborate with carefully selected local dive centers who are happy to welcome Divepoint divers.Â
The dive centers offer three dives per day. The first dive is usually a blue water dive at the cleaning plateaux, where there is a high probability of encountering manta rays, hammerheads, and thresher sharks. There are a total of 18 diving spots, selected based on the weather and the experience level of the guests. For example, there is a steep wall dive where various species, including turtles and numerous fish, can be observed. The tiger shark dive is scheduled as either the second or third dive, providing an opportunity to observe these magnificent creatures.
