💡 The shovelnose guitarfish is part of an ancient lineage, virtually unchanged over millions of years.
With around 15 species spread across the globe, these remarkable creatures share common traits: large, flat heads, small ‘wings,’ and elongated tails.
Ranging from under one meter to an impressive three meters in length, guitarfish are also known as shovelnose sharks or shovelnose rays in different regions.

‼️‼️You’ve probably felt the heartbreak upon hearing that the Maldives government plans to resume longline fishing, posing a grave threat to our precious ocean’s biodiversity.
Longlining is a commercial method that tragically ensnares sharks, manta rays, sea turtles, seabirds, and countless other innocent marine creatures. These fishing lines can stretch up to 80 miles long, with an average bycatch rate exceeding 20% of the total haul.
Often, these longlines are abandoned in the ocean, continuing their deadly work long after the boats have gone.
